Wed, 17 October 2007 This week on Jeff and Aaron's DVD Extravaganza Jeff reviews the 2001 psychological thriller "Don't Say a Word", which stars Michael Douglas, Brittany Murphy, and Sean Bean. This film is about a prominent New York psychiatrist, played by Douglas, who has to retreive a six digit number from a young women who has been commited to a mental hospital. He must do this before 5:00PM in order to save the life of his 8 year old daughter who has been kidnapped by a group of jewel theives that believe the young women in the mental hospital knows the whereabouts of a gem stolen by her father and them 10 years earlier. This DVD also contains a lot of bonus material about the making of "Don't Say a Word" which is sure to appeal to those of you who like to watch the behind the scenes commentaries of how a movie is made. Wed, 10 October 2007 Its back to 19th century France on this edition of Jeff and Aaron's DVD Extravaganza as Jeff reviews the Baz Luhrman musical from 2001 "Moulin Rouge". This film stars Nicole Kidman as the beautiful Satine, a headliner and lady of the evening at the "Moulin Rouge" a dance hall and bordello. Ewan McGregor plays an inspiring playwright named Christian who gets caught up in the artisans revolution in 1899 Paris and eventually falls in love with Satine. The story of the "Moulin Rouge" centers on the love affair between Satine and Christian as they try to get financing for a play Christian is writing from the Duke played by Richard Roxburgh. The Duke also has his eyes on the beautiful Satine and is only providing the money for Christian's play in order to gain control of Satine for his very own. "Moulin Rouge" won 2 Academy Awards for Acheivement in Art Direction and Acheivement in Costume Design during the 2002 Academy Awards. The Looney Tunes and the Merry Melodies cartoon shorts were created back in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. During the late 60s, these animation classics found their way to Saturday Morning and remained their throughout the Golden Age of Saturday Morning Cartoons. In fact, the Looney Tunes characters are still around appearing on WB Kids and the Cartoon Network in one form or another. Sat, 22 September 2007 On this edition of Jeff and Aaron's DVD Extravaganza, we continue with part 3 of our look at the Golden Age of Saturday Morning Cartoons with one of the most popular live action kids programs from the mid 70's. "Land of the Lost" created by producers Sid and Marty Kroff was a favorite of kids everywhere during the 1970's . "Land of the Lost" was so popular, in fact, that it easily beat out cartoons in the same time slots on the other networks and led to an increase in number of live action programs for kids from 1975-1978. On this podcast, Jeff talks about what made "Land of the Lost" such a huge hit not only for the kids but adults as well. " Land of the Lost" was one of the longest running kids programs during the Golden Age of Saturday Morning Cartoons. This week Jeff and Aaron's DVD Extravaganza continues with part 2 of a special series of podcasts on the Golden Age of Saturday Morning Cartoons. On this episode of our show, we take a look back at a Hanna-Barbera classic that originally aired in Prime Time from 1960-1966 on the ABC television Network. Of course I'm talking about the Flintstones. When the Flinstones left the Prime Time Airways NBC purchase the rights to the show and began airing reruns of the original Flintstones Cartoons during Saturday Morning from 1966-1969. After that, the Flintstones made an appearance in various forms throughout the Golden Age of Saturday Morning Cartoons. Some of these Saturday Morning Cartoons included " The Pebbles and Bamm Show (71-72), The Flintstone Comedy Hour (72-73), Fred & Barney meet the Thing (79), Fred & Barney meet the Shmoo (earily 80's), and The Flintstone Kids (86-88). Sat, 8 September 2007 HEY its Saturday morning, and during the month of September Jeff is doing a special series of programs about the "Golden Age of Saturday Morning Cartoons". Many of these Catoons and Live Action shows that we grew up with are finding their way to DVD. This week Jeff takes a look at one of his favorite live action shows from Saturday morning called "ARK II". Ark II was on the air during the 1976-1977 season, and later in snydication around 1979-1980. The show starred soap opera star Terry Lester, Jean Marie Hon, and Jose Flores plus a chimpaneze named Adam who could talk. The voice of Adam was provided by one of the shows producers Lou Scheimer. 15 episodes of Ark II are currently available on DVD along with a fantastic half-hour behind the scenes documentary called " The Launch of ARK II" . This four disc box set is currently available on Amazon.com and at other retail outlets. Not one of Keanu Reeves more notable films, this movie stars legendary film actor Gene Hackman as a football coach who hires a misfit group of replacement football players when the leagues professional players go on strike over a salary dispute. Keanu Reeves plays ex college quarterback Shane Falco who missed his chance at the pros after a humilating defeat at the Sugar Bowl. Given a second chance, Falco leads this misfits group of players for the Washington Sentinels to victory in the remaining games of the football season. Along the way, he falls in love with the beautiful head cheerleader of the Washington Sentinels, played by Brooke Langton . This is a feel good movie for the entire family.
